I'm going to agree and disagree with Lexie. It is a powerful image and I think it nails the project you listed it in. As for the house in the background, I see it as adding to the 'Loneliness' of the shot, as it's old, fogotten, neglected, yet only a few steps away from a home where life is.

WOW! What a powerful image. The only thing I might suggest is cropping off the top so all you see is the grass and not the house that is beyond that.
