Taken near the first of September as storms battered the Lake Michigan coast. Some boogie boarders took advantage of the high winds and waves to launch themselves into the chop. The water was strongly lit up by close to sunset lighting directly striking the water and almost nothing else. Tell me what you think. JB
As a guy who did a fair share of surfing in my earlier years, I can appreciate the emotional impact of this shot. People might nitpick exposure or "bullyeye composition", but in a decisive moment situation, you've done very well to capture feeling.
I think BRAVE might not be the first word that comes to mind, but you did a great job of capturing this moment. I agree with Steve in that a little less breakwall and a little more surf might have made the image even better.
Looks like a wild day! I like the composition and the colors alot. I also like your use of the zoom lens here. To me it gives it a sense of abstractness. (I don't think abstractness is a word, but you get the idea.)
I would've like to see the camera pointed slightly more to the right to keep the boarder off-center and catch more of the rough wave action. Over-all great job though!
