About This was my second attempt to take aurora photos with my medium
format camera. I just got my new Epson 2450 scanner this week
so I am trying my hand at scanning some of my 6x7 transparencies.
I think this is pretty good but I am still not getting all the detail I
would like out or the scans. I guess I'll have to start saving for a
120 film scanner (someday).
This was not a very good show as far as the Auroras were concerned but
I was anxious to try the 120 film. This is also the second time I have taken
Aurora photos at this location and I love getting the reflection in the pond
like this.

Shawn,
I had scouted out this spot well before the Northern Lights hit. I have about 5 or 6 favorite spots and depending on the intensity of the Aurora and the weather, I pick one. The best thing you can do is scout ahead of time. And go at night and even take a few pictures before the Northern Lights are out. Once they start dancing, you won't notice the power lines that are running through the picture until you get your film back. This photo was taken about 1/4 mile from my house near Marquette Michigan. I don't remember exactly when. I think it was last summer some time. I also have more Aurora information on my web site if anyone is interested.
Thanks for all your comments,
-Scott

Excellent composition and exposure, Scott. The scanner you got is very good, in time you'll set it up better ( try different settings and even scan softwares ), anyway, this work is very good. Congrats! ..... Lucas

Very nice-when did you shoot these and where, I love shooting the auroras but I can never seem to be at the right spot at the right time for reflections-Congrats Shawn Kellogg p.s. I attached 1 of my shots I got a few years ago in Northern Michigan shot @ 20 sec. w/iso 400 35mm film.

I really like the reflections in the water... and the pinpoints of light that are the stars are a "great touch"... i have had the same scanner for about 9 months now, and while it gives excellent results (after some practice), i still don't get all of the detail in my scans that are in the actual negative (or slide)... even so, I really like this image... the dark contrasting with the muted light of the aurora definately works. Well done.
