Wonderful picture(s). Glad to see that during all the conflict there is time to enjoy photography. Must definately be relaxing to slow down and take a moment to look at the world through a lens. Great pictures all around. Good luck with your pictures and all other objectives. Keep up the good work.

well, but this picture shows a soldier, not a daisy flower - therefore you will not be able to avoid political comments. nevermind, I would not regard quoting the bible as a political, but rather a religious or ethic statement: 'jesus also died for YOUR sins!' :))

Good shot Charles, I imagine that I know how the Major feels at that moment. Catching the little things like o-pos on his helmet is a huge plus. A strong reminder of the numerous seemingly silly things warriors of all time have had to account for. From a photgraphic tech perspective I just see the man's leg in the background blown out badly. Strong photo even so.

Very intense, this picture shows a very intimate side of soldiering. The square crop is a good choise as well as the hue saturation. regards DC

this is a very good picture, because it can transmit the sensation, almost premonition, that this soldier will be get killed soon... his exhausted, death mask like face (mind the nose!) betrays his future fate. if he's christian, he could read it in the bible: 'those who take up the sword will perish by the sword'.

Thanks for the comments - fill in flash is not something I am very used/attuned to at the moment, and will take this on as a project when I have a pause.

A really nice photograph. When shooting in a helicopter you really need to be careful of the outside light. What you can do is meter for the outside, the use a flash to balance the light in the inside, that is if you can use a flash in the helicopter. Always check with the crew chief or the piolt.
