Dear John, I had to crop this picture on the left because there were some disturbing elements, such as feets of various people, and the space in the right can give the sense of the emptyness of his soul... I had only a few seconds to shot, the homeless could take a look in my direction and I didn't have a tele in my case... Thank you very much for your comment!

I know the open space on the right adds to the feeling but I find my self wondering what is to the left. Perhaps nothing but in that case moving in would really help.

Your POV and poor conversion to black and white weaken a potentially compelling image. A digital color photograph can be made into a rich, gorgeously toned monotone, but this photo feels flat and lifeless.

Hi Maurizio, Pitiful and powerful scene. The negative space on the right works well, but also initiates the thought what the effect would be if you'd placed the man more to the right of the image. Don't think it would've had as much impact, though. Very good shot, and an excellent tonal range.

Cheers,

Hugo

It's an interesting photo. The thing I would have done differently though is to move in (remember Robert Capa, "if your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough") and not shoot so much of the street but rather focus on the man and that very interesting sign in the background that says "Gypsy Fever". Maybe talk to the guy and try for a photo that's not as physically and psychologically distant.

Good tones and lighting. That man looks very dejected. Good shot!
