Thanks Chris for the useful points. I shall use photoshop to remove the wires I couldn't avoid that as I was on a bridge. certainly the graduated filter would have helped in getting the details if foreground.
I find the wires to be a pretty major distraction. Also, in this kind of high contrast scene, the use of a graduated ND filter, or combining multiple exposures would help to even out the exposure, in which you can have good shadow detail in the foreground, and highlight detail in the sky.
In this case, you have the highlight detail in the sky, at the expense of the very dark foregound almost going completely black.
Also, I wonder if it would have been possible to get right down to the water, so as to maximize the colorful reflections on the water, eliminating the extra material that doesn't really add overall to the photo.
