Bravo

hi Pan, you're right this picture doesn't make me feel melancholic but moved my imagination and you're wrong i'm not a pure optimistic. if those things are a part of your life, but if they are really, melancholy wouldn't be the only feeling, at least for me. As a person living in a historical city and an archaeologist (once) i know it's not possible not to feel melancholic when you are surrounded by the history and its remains but not always. dear Pan i have a lot of to say about this but i will cut short now and will tell you later :)good night

Your answer has surpised me dear Ayse, when i was making it i was under the impression that people like Greeks or Turks, that live among all those monuments and statues of a glorious past - all those things that are part of their everyday life, would feel rather melancholic with this image, or at least i did.Funny thing is that in the greek site, everyone found it to be rather melancholic (as i was expecting it) but i'm surprised that you think otherwise. You're someone with an optimistic point of view in your life,i'm very glad to hear it :)
Kendine iyi bak, gorusuruzzzz :)

it has a surrealistic feeling for me, because i looked several times and i wasn't able to see this statue as a lifeless thing. like very much your comp. with this old couple guided by the statue but a living statue :)congrats Pan.

Incredible Pan!

A pespective of strangeness for a subject of strangeness - yet the message is very clearly heard. There is so muc in this picture that one hardly knows where to start. The coloring and lighting of melancholy, perhaps even sorrow, the old people going, perhaps even abandoning a world where they feel they don't know any more, the statue as a symbol of glorious past and the cavity digged out in a modern dirty city.

Truly work of art! Bravo!

Nick

Fantastic Pan! I love the dark moodiness and the statue that seems to be pointing the way for them. I agree about the bottom part of the picture as Hugo stated. I can't quite figure out what the dark channel is on the sidewalk. Regardless this is a incredible image with effective processing.!

You are an animal. I want to critique something, but honestly, its really freakin awesome. Reminds me of Brassai and the great street photography of paris in the pre-war era. Timeless, classic... well deserved award. Thanks so much for the kind words on my photos. cheers, t

Hi my friend, i didn't know about this section in the forum, i just checked it and i'll keep it in mind!
As for that "gap" in the walkway...actually it's a scarf but it doesn't show very good.I tried to remove it but with no luck, so i left it.
Take care :)

Congrats for well deserved SC,my friend...it is about time your amazing photoart was recognized...
very few photoart images receive awards from what i have seen...we should both begin to nominate more photoart in the POD award donor forum! #15 is up now and any donors can go there to paste the url of the image you are nominating...then staff looks at them and decides about any awards

This has the look of a still from a vintage 40's film...am i seeing correctly that there is a gap in the walkway? Tone and light is so appealing

My goodness Pan! Congratulations!!! Finally, some recognition from the staff! I'm so happy, you deserve this award and many many more.

As always, I love the work you produce. This one is no different. The romance of the old couple, arm in arm, as they walk in the street is just splendid. Well captured my friend :)

Cheers
Rina.

p.s. LOVE your new bio pic too....

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 4/30/2006
Hi Pan, extremely powerful and moody shot, and some very impressive postprocessing. I'm normally not a big fan of these heavily manipulated images, but I think it works great in this case, the mood really adds to the story telling. Hurrying home through an ominous night; no place for an elderly couple. God only knows what's lurking in the dark, ready to strike.... Maybe my imagination is getting out of hand here, but the feeling of a dark horror movie pops up when I look at this image. Very powerful with a huge tension.

I only feel a bit ambiguous about the lower part of the image, I think placing the couple a bit lower in the frame, showing more of the face of the building above them might just add that wee bit extra to emphasise the brillance of this shot. See what I mean? The lower part doesn't really add to the story, at least not in the context I see this in...

Very well done!

Cheers,

Hugo

Dear Pan
I love to see old couples still being able to hold hands and showing their love towards each other. An interesting image that looks like an old movie without speech:-)
