Hi Hugo
I had intended to centre the tree and its strong shadow when I took the photo but there was a signpost that I had to clone out so between trying to position that where it would be easy to remove, and also wanting some of the city skyline I ended up with not as much on the right side to play with. C'est la vie.

Hi Bruce,
Having been absent for a forthnight doesn't mean I see this image for the first time, it's been open in one of the tabs since you uploaded it. It attracted myu attention as a thumbnail. At first the glance, the large image felt a bit unbalanced, until I noticed the skyline in the distance on the left.
Concidering the width of the tree you could almost center it in the composition. I don't think it would've made the lay out too static because of the diverging lines of the shadow. Also, the vertically centered placement of the horizon would justify that. Yet this solution does open up the view and draws some of the attention to the skyline in the distance, which is definitely an addition.
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Micky, very glad that your health is on the mend. Saw a satellite photo of Sth Island - almost completely covered in snow, you've sure been having some good weather! I've uploaded another version of this photo to bring out more details in the tree, with a bit of an explanation of the manipulations.

Hi there Bruce, have not been about a lot lately, the health packed up for quite some time, but slowly getting back into things. I really love this lone tree, so strong and Regal in stature very well placed in the frame, pity you lost the sharpness what did you do in PS to cause that?love the forground shadows.I think I am done with sunrises!more inclined with the sunsets these days, pity though as I love the early light.Plenty of snow pics at the moment, all over Sth Island Ashburton got the heaviest fall in many years, lge areas of Canterbury without power.
Cheers Micky

Thanks John - yes the tree is a bit blurred, that was caused by the PS effects, do you think it was too much?

Like the detail and colours. The tree seems to be a bit blurred. Like the way the shadow come out towards you.

Thanks very much Susie - the city is Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane. The bush on the right side of the horizon is the northern tip of Bribie Island. The water is the Pumicestone passage. And thats the end of todays geography lesson ;)

It was sunrise Gary, its the best chance I have of getting some photos when I'm away from home - usually seem too busy at sunset.

Really pretty shot Bruce. I love how you captured the sun right behind the tree. What cityline is in the background? Cool shadow and your horizon is arrow straight. Susie
