I was just there last weekend...March 29 (which is when I shot this). You should go soon (although it might rain this weekend) because as soon as it gets too dry, these will be gone. They say that the poppies don't open on very windy days (above 10mph winds), but it was really windy when I was there and the poppies looked beautiful (not closed at all). I would also suggest stopping on the side of the road either on the way to the reserve or on the way back towards Lancaster, because the bloom on the side of the road is actually more dense than most places in the reserve! It's still worth going into the reserve though, because you can walk the trails to the tops of the hills where you can see poppies for miles and miles!
