Here they are
Curtiss C-46 were presurized ,reason why the secret services used them a lot during WWII. Douglas C-47 were less expensive and more flexible, instead not to be pressurized became also famous because it was ablle to make "The Jump" near Himalayas to fournish the American forces allied with the Chinese forces against Japanese invasion at WWII.Good shot

Oh I hate those downpours, hope you were able to keep your camera dry!! Wonderful DOF to show the massive size of these planes, and the details, nicely composed with the nose of each jutting out for comparison, and I too like the way the Cessna is flying into the scene...well done Dave...:) Linda

The straight lines of the planes doesn't appear very good. I think that a better resize(resample) program will do better result.
Best regards, Vandi

You're right, Rafi, the military name was Dakota, and the designation was C-47. DC3 is the civilian variation. Dave.

:( I hope you're dry by now, Dave (lol) Very interesting photo of these old warhorses. I think the DC3 used to be called "Dakota" & if so, many, many years ago I jumped from one like it. I don't know how you do it, but you always find a kind, positive word even when my photos are grim & I am grateful to you for That & for your other comments. Best regards, Rafi

Hi Dave! Very interesting portraits of these oldies. Excellent composition ... I like how you included the Cessna and left some space for the planes to fly into :)

Dave,
What a great image of these old prop planes! I agree with Joggie about the Cessna not quite fitting in. All you need in this one is Bogart and Bergmen talking about still having Paris over to the left of those planes and you have the closing scene from Casablanca :) This is a perfect opportunity for a nice sepia job BTW. That would bring the image right back to the forties for sure.
One thing I thought I might mention...I don't think anyone else has? You do have quite a lot of that zig zag look to the straight lines of the planes in this image. I found that when this happens to me, it is usually because I haven't uploaded a small enough file. Not your fault...Usefilm compression, I think? It is quite a common thing in Automotive images too. If I resize the image in Photoshop to approx 850x850 and less than 360kb, then I find that almost always produces nice lines on my monitor. My bet is that you uploaded this image quite big and let Usefilm size it automatically. Andre

Wow, the do have some age on them dont they. Great catch Dave. I tried to get in to see the Blue Angels last week and the traffic to get onto the base was so bad (waited two hours) that we decided to leave. I really wanted to catch them in action in the air:)

Beautiful details and colour on the planes Dave. Personally i would concentrate on the big planes (thats where the real interest lies here) and crop out the Cessna as it is very small in the picture and throw it out of ballance a bit. Thanks for sharing. Joggie

I love how you've caught the noses of these all jutting out from each other... great perspective. These planes look fantastic.
Looking at that sky it's hard to believe the heavens opened moments later :)
