About I was hoping I could get some feedback.

How would one take this picture so that not simply a small portion of the words on the tire were in focus, but so that many of the words on the tire are in focus? Would a tripod help with this?

I think, as is, you did a great job depicting the texture of the rubber. To answer your question, I think a wider lens and smaller aperture will be your solution.

Also to note-- I like the photo the way youhave presented it; the extrusion nibs and the tire texture make for a pleasing and interesting picture.

Use a wider angle focal length for more depth of field, possibly use tripod and set camera to small aperature and longest shutter speed. Also moving back from subject at slightly greater distance will also extend depth of field.
