About Saw this strangely shaped flower one day while walking in the garden of a hospital in Santa Clara, California. For reasons I still do not understand, this flower reminds me of a soul in agony, released from some kind of bondage.
I changed the background in Photoshop the more to emphasize the beauty of this flower. This is my first post and also first attempts in Photoshop.
My grateful thanks to A.V. Bhaskar for his guidance and encouragement in pursing my new found hobby - Photography. Constructve comments appreciated so that I can learn. Thanks.

Many thanks for your explanation, Bhaskar! I did upload the pic at 72 dpi as expalined in the rules for uploading. However I will try to do it as suggested by you the next time. Your Blossom of spines is a great one!

You should not use faster shutter speed just to freeze the flower. Wait till the wind settles down or use some card boards to arrest the wind. By using faster shutter you loose your DOF. Close ups like this need minimum depth to view it sharply. This picture looks sharp may have a resolution problem. Simple if you have uploaded it in 72 dpi (which most cameras deliver) try changing it in PS to 150 dpi. This will ensure your picture is sharp if the original is sharp. Want to know how to change from 72 to 150 dpi with out affecting quality let me know. A V Bhaskar-India Please Check my picture 'Blossom of spines'

Thank you all for your comments. I agree with you Kristina, the flower could have been sharper but this was the best I could do given that there was a lot of wind that day and even a faster shutter speed did not seem to help.

I think the flower could be a little bit sharper, but besides that I find everything excellent! A very beautiful flower, perfectly composed, good colours and interesting. Personally I think of a hand, desperately reaching out for something.

Really unique and stunning photo for a first try. Congratulations. IMO the main subject should be more centered so that the frame doesn?t cut its image.
