Oh Sheila . . . Did I ever e-mail an answer to this one??? You know you can nag me (via) e-mail for this stuff . . . I'm happy to oblige and will just claim ignorance if I don't know. I have THAT down to a science. For example . . . Did I answer this already? Hmmmmm . . . "I Don't Know!" See? It's easy! LoL!

Thank you Scott!
I'm tickled that you liked my portfolio!
I try to use natural light for most of my photos because it's always the softest and prettiest light. Shooting in the shade on a sunny day and window light are both pretty nice for portraits.
The tones...if I don't get it right in camera first, then I will adjust it later with Photo Shop 4.0. If I adjust it in PS I usually start with adjusting the levels first, then contrast and brightness if I need it.
The eyes...well that's a little secret tip that I learned from a great photographer here on UF. Susie O'Conner taught me to select the eyes and use the unsharpen mask to make them perfect.
I hope you like my little tips!
:)Sheila

Hi Doyle!
Thanks for the comment! We've been gone so I haven't logged on in a few days.
I was kind of putting the text to the left like little Emily...:) I couldn't decide where in the heck I wanted to put it! Maybe I will try centering it next time.
I've never been able to figure out how to put a thin line around my photos. Can you explain that? I thought the photo needed something more, I just couldn't figure out how. I like the idea of the drop shadow too.
Are sick of explaining PS 4.0 yet? :) I hope not!
I'm off to check out your floral shot...
Thanks! Sheila

Sheila, what an amazing capture. i've browsed through your portfolio and can only aspire to one day create images as successful as yours. The light, tonal qualities, and the eyes. how do you do it?
regards,
scott.

Wow . . . much better Sheila. I have some info I'm putting together for you regarding the questions (Overlay) you asked . . . (I'm not ignoring you) . . . but this (IMO) is much better for the lil Emily lighting!
I would suggest (something for you to try) that you contain the image (currently unframed) by canvas expanding 1 or 2 mm black line before expanding into the UF BG. It helps (IMO) to contain the image. If you wished . . . you could even do a drop shadow after the 1-2 mm thin black border before expanding into the UF BG . . . and that will make the image float and accent it more too. You learn fast . . . :)
If you open the text box along the entire bottom of the image and center text . . . uhhhhhh . . . then the text would be centered. :P
If you wanted it under Emily . . . uhhhhh . . . well . . . different strokes. LoL! It amazes me (and honors me) that I could teach a talented photographer like yourself anything! I DID try your tip to me about shooting the floral from below and JUST couldn't do it. Clearly you're a better student! I finally resorted to yanking the weed out of the yard and holding it along the lens barrel as I wandered about with one eye sighting through the lens to get the ideal BG and all the time hoping not to stumble into the wife's cactus patch! I got the shot http://www.usefilm.com/image/1217482.html but not what I was seeking and not how you said to get it. Guess I should try again . . . :)
