SOo I just wish that this winter will bring as much frost as possible, Andre! ;-)
Seriously now, indeed the patterns of ice on leaves are always very photogenic for macro captures.
Best wishes,
Nick

Hi Nick, I think anything with frost on it is worth a try getting as close as you can. Especially if it is a delicate plant with frost. Andre

A very reasonable way to look at such natural patterns, Annemette. There can be no absolute recipe of course, but thank you vary much for the ideas, especially because natuare is not really a main subject of my photography. So, I have some more insight about that according to your ideas now.
Take care too,
Nick

Well, as you mention it a background can be interesting at times. I would myself differenchiate between macro and shots taken further away depending on the flower itself. Is it fitting for a macro? Does it have interesting details by means of patterns, shape, colourtones, petals or maybe an insect or droplet on it? If not I´d either not take it or look closer at the background. Take care Annemette

That's what I also think about this one, Annemette, and I am glad that you had the same idea. The question is of course to find how much "nearer" is the "right mearer" since the background often adds very much. So, there is pressumably no general rule, but on this one it would be better to go even more near the plant.
We try out, we make mistakes, we learn ;-)$
Best wishes and thank you very much,
Nick

Dear Nick A nice frosty one, but I would indeed move closer to the leaves. I think in general that it adds interest and intensity to a photo when moving closer when there is a certain object of interest. It catches the eye sometimes making a puzzle or other times revealing unexpected details. Taken further away make plants and flowers often appear a bit boring to look at, but that´s just my opinion out of many:-) Take care Annemette

It was indeed the frost that drew my attention, Andre! The additional contrasting patterns were a good thing to capture. Couldn't it be better if captured from a smaller distance?
