wow, excellent "action" shot, Rob! You froze that duck with such amazing sharpness and clarity. The little "hot spot" on the wing isn't a distraction at all for me. The only thing I notice is maybe you should trim the duck toe nails!! hahaha Cheers, Gary

Thanks Bill . I wish I could have avoided the hot spot on the wing , but , the Mallard flew right into an area of bright sunlight and there simply was no avoiding it . Now , having said that , I certainly could have fixed it post processing , but I tend to not like doing that . This image is ( with it's flaws ) , the way it was at that time . Thanks again for taking the time to comment . I appreciate it .

Hi Rob: Boy I hate to disagree with folks, but this photo rocks! The clarity in the pic is incredible, and doesn't require a vision of motion. Mom Mallard Just jumps off the frame. Whether this photograph was intentional or not, it is wonderful! Only point of comment is the "hot" spot on the inner/underside of the wing. However, with that said, this sets off the transitional gray scale of the feathers all the way to the Black tips of the wing. In many, many photos, there is an element of luck and timing. IMHO...Bravo!!
Cheers,
Bill

I agree Edin . I was not really trying to get the "perfect" capture with this image . It was just something that happened "spur of the moment" with no time to prepare . I just thought I'd post it anyway . This image was captured with AF set to continuous tracking and "lock on" .

Very good, I would try to catch motion of wings...in that way you could get more dynamic effect and not just a frozen moment. Next time try with AI servo (or whatever you call it on Nikon) and lower shutter speed ;)
