I also had to chance to shoot a portrait holding an umbrella(you may see in my portfolio)but this one seems much way better.I beleive the reason is that the model is placed in 1/3rd of the frame from both sides and she has a strong look coming though out the screen.

Wonderful portrait, the detail is superb and the expression of the model is so beautiful. The lighting is perfect as the b&w rendition. I particularly like the playfulness of the pattern of the umbrella against the freckles.
