About I was trying to learn and practice still life photography and had two ideas. I photographed them using directional lighting a Canon 20D on a tripod from above, with a florescent filter. I wanted to shoot this for my nephew Kellan who is now nearing three months of age and going to have a first Christmas. Anyway I would value any suggestions to make the photo better. Thank you!

Another great still life. :) I love the idea and concept of this one in particular.. being for your nephew, Kellan and his first Christmas. I do have to say though that I like your full color version the best. It is more classic and original, don't ya think? But, I also love the B&W with the color dice. Tough decision. I know you will make the right one though. and no matter what, your nephew will love it. Congratulations on another one of your many great photographs! Hopefully someday I can get your assistance in still life and in any other type of photography. You could give me a few pointers. Well, take care Coach J and keep shooting.
By the way, I gave this a 7 (it deserves it) :)
Best Wishes,
Ashley

Garold that looks great. In my POV you should give this Kellan like it is. Like Robert has written know you are centered to the middle of the image but your eyes still drift to the right side to the book. Therefore you have a perfect combination. A cute bear and the title of the Book make it to a perfect match. Well done, and I am glad you liked my suggestion.
Cheers, Sascha

Garold, Sascha is always worth a listen. Selective color is just one way to improve the photo. Your eyes stay in the center in you B&W/color version.

I also like the original. It has a good idea and like the book title. I find my eyes drifting to the top right because the book is bright and has as much contrast as the other subjects. Local contrast and sharpness control would go a long way.

Thank you for posting this nice shot.

I do indeed value your assistance and hope that you will offer advice in the future also. I like the de-saturated and color combined version and played a little with it, I will post it down here see what others think about it too. I could not do anything with the cropping as I didn’t crop, this is the way I shot it :(

Hi Garold, first of all I Like the idea you have in your mind. You are asking for some suggestions which would make the image better. Well first of all I wouldn't crop so tight, give a little bit more space and it would look better. Secondly I think it should have more contrast, it seems it is a little bit to soft and doesn't have really black structures. I also think it would look perfect in B&W and only the letter dices and balls should be in color. The selective coloring I would choose to make this image look perfect. But these are only my ideas. Well, I hope I could help and let me know what you think or what you have done.
All the best and fun by doing your new work.
Cheers Sascha
