Congratulations on Editor's choice. Why did it take so long? The colors are just incredible. It's so perfect that it almost seems abstract...if that makes sense?

I think it is a gorgeous image, a perfect combination with lines and colors. If you add to this the composition you did... the results is this beautiful landscape.

I suppose I can't add too much more to what's already been said (or is that "written?") about this image. From the thumbnail, it looks like bold, painted strokes, but then there's a weird texture in the foreground.

The full image is, well to quote someone else, Stunning (yes, with a capital "S").

Hmm, Velvia, polarizer, the colors just jump out of the screen. A shame about the contrails. Or is it? I don't know. Maybe they add something. They are going the right way, after all. I take that back. Good thing the contrails were there that day. ;-)

I think the graphic lines and the colors here are gorgeous. I agree with Ron, I tend to want to take a roll on these hills as well.

I love the colors, textures, and curves in this shot. I find it smooth, bright, and relaxing.

What horizon?
I want to be in this photo. I want to walk up that hill. Better yet, I want to roll down that hill like a kid!

Michael Busselle   {K:221} 6/12/2002
I take no offence at all, in fact I find all comments both helpful and interesting. The matter of horizons is not entirely straightforward. I do like to make sure that a flat horizon is level but when it's undulating it's not always satisfactory to do this scientifically. I have a spirit level but often with a non-flat horizon, when it says the camera is level it simply doesn't look right so I ignore it and tilt the camera unitl it looks right to me.

Although I could not live with a badly tilted horizon in a seascape, for instance, I sometimes think that being too concerned over things like this borders on pedantry and becoming too obsessive about it can make you a bit predictable and unadventurous. I recall reading that the great jazz pianist, Thelonious Monk, would go around his house deliberately tilting the pictures on the wall, it certainly worked for him.

hey this whole horizon concept still confuses me.(I am very new to landscape photog) I just noticed that it is always suggested to straighten horizons on soooo many images. I am just glad that this has now been clarified for me to learn from. and gladly I will check out Michael's books - thanks for the recommendation Petros
and Michael - I hope this discussion was of no offense to you - I am a huge fan of your photos - I am learning alot from them and am very glad there are professionals posting their work on usefilm.

dawna, dont think thats the horizon, not that it matters

Petros Stamatakos   {K:12101} 6/11/2002
Horizon appears to be straight to me Dawna, although it's hard to judge, as the photo depicts hills...

By the way Dawna, if I may, can I recommend you check out some Michael's photography books? http://www.michael-busselle.com/ShowPictures.asp?CatID=351

I have quite a few of them, and I have found them very fascinating...

Dawna G.    {K:7709} 6/11/2002
although I do like it the way it is - I am not suggesting to change it.

Dawna G.    {K:7709} 6/11/2002
this is the first time I have seen this image, very intense, vivid colors - I am just drawn to this type of image! I am surprised no one said to straighten the horizon though :)
