Oh yes, Gustavo! Such places, like wokipedia, are some kind of a first "taste" about many subjects! Much like appetizers that make us wanting to go deeper.
Still I wonder why for example sites like http://plato.stanford.edu/ are absosutely not widely known. They are on the web exactly as wikipedia and similar sites, but how often are they referenced? Perhaps 5%-10% of all references, or am I wrong?
Some additional questions. Everybody speaks about "wikipedia", everybody talks about "philosophy", "education", "culture", and everybody things it is enough to turn some personal impression to a "general truth" about the world. Is it that easy? What is about the places where people devote their whole lifes for bringing the truth to us and for free? What am I doing here when I spend sleepless nights only to make a single step ahead on a single theorem?
The whole philosophy is availiable there, on the online libraries of universities, for free, but we insist ignoring them! Is it then really so strange that we can't keep up with the cognition and the results that define our lives every day? When I use my computer, it is *definitely* just because some guys took the time to read, understand, and go further, and discover quantum mechanics. This poses definite limits to whatever kind of "philosophy" I hear everyday, or else your computer wouldn't work. ;-) Philosophy without dedicationwill always lead to pseudo-knowledge of wikipedia.
A pity! The whole world of education is available on line, yet we insist to visit the amateuric appetizers, as if they were some kind of importnat stuff. But then we shouldn't complain that scienece is "too hard to understand". Nonsence, I say! Science and philosophy are easiest to understand, provided we *care* for understanding, and we *care* for referencing too, by doing adequate research. And that means: Work!

Estoy absolutamente de acuerdo con vos en lo que respecta a Wikipedia, no tengas dudas, conozco las falencias que tiene, la falta de rigurosidad y la posibilidad de que su información no está completa o incluso ni siquiera sea correcta... si uno quiere hacer una investigación seria, no es el lugar, sin dudas.
Pero le reconozco algún valor, para tenerla en cuenta como una fuente más...

It is also reality that the university libraries are available online, Gustavo. (Project Euclid, JSTOR, EMIS, and many many others.) You can get the authentic papers of almost all scientific publicationa either completely for free, or for just some few bucks. There are still some publications standing under the copyright of university press, which are not available online. In such cases you just write an email to the librarial stuff, and they will scan and send the material to you per email for some very low fee. The concentrated wealth of knowledge is available to everybody that takes the time for real research, which is definitely not the five minutes search in wikipedia or similar places.
So the problem is not the physical distance but rather the time. Serious research takes a long time, which I must of course accept that we don't always have. Sigh! Days have only 24h and we must work, see our people, do so many things, I know. But still wikipedia is definitely not to be mentioned as reference about some certain subject. It simply isn't a serious source.
Thoughts experiment: Imagine the personified analogon to wikipedia. What would that be like? It would be a set of answering people - mixed up and colorful. Now, somebody, say Gustavo, asks about something - let's take for example he has headaches and he describes his symptoms. If by chance he directs the question to somebody of that crowd that is a doctor, then could be a good diagnosis. But the chances for that are low, since everybody in that crowd "analyses" health subjects, and not only those who have the appropriate knowledge. And so Gustavo will have a number of answers out of which it is very difficult for him to choose, if not knowing also more info about the occupation of the answerer. It is one of the biggest misunderstandings of the homo webis to take wikipedia as a serious reference, especially when it comes to such crucial subjects like for example the possibility of a machine that works on a bijective mappint to the universe. This is not something to deal with in a few lines.
As about "Vox Dei", wasn't it for example Abraham Wald that Vox Dei prevented from doing most important work during the days of WWII? Wasn't it the completely false "estimation of the situation in the middle east" from some ignorant on the web, out of which the british government reasoned that "their rockets can reach London within 20 min.?" We all still live with the results of that "reasoning". ;-)

Las historias de Don Jesus Scatolini te divertirían por horas, fotografiarlo es más difícil (aunque como te dije voy a volver con la cámara a la rotativa)...ja...ja... prometo presentártelo cuando te des una vuelta por Viedma!
Sin dudas la foto tiene mucho de "maquinismo", fijate que a varios les ha recordado a "tiempos" modernos" de Chaplin...

:-), en verdad Luis, es parte de los mecanismos de la rotativa del Diario Noticias de la Costa. Paseaba aburrido por el diario cuando escuché ruidos en el taller y descubrí un sector de la rotativa desarmado, y el viejo Scatolini refunfuñando entre los mecanismos. Los engranajes me fascinan, y bueno, me entretuve sacándoles fotos, y a los rodillos también, y por supuesto tomé las clásicas fotos de chipas de amoladora, una quedó linda así que seguramente la subiré en estos días. De todas formas voy a regresar porque esa vieja rotativa da para más.

Gracias Nick, me alegra que te guste! no sé si es merecedora de un BIP, pero creo que por lo menos es una foto que cumple con la premisa del proyecto "concentricity"...:-)
En cuanto a Wikipedia la considero simpática, un proyecto novedoso, que está al alcance de todos fácilmente en internet y también popular, no desconozco para nada sus falencias y mucho menos el valor del conocimiento académico y formal, la Vox Dei, pero también respeto el conocimiento popular, la Vox Populi.
Como dato interesante te cuento que yo vivo a 270 Km de la universidad donde estudié ingeniería y de su biblioteca, y las mejores bibliotecas a las que podría concurrir están a Buenos Aires, a 1000 km de donde vivo...:-(
Como ves, las realidades es las que vivimos son muy distintas... :-)

And this is even better than the oprevious one in terms of real feel, Gustavo! A real BIP, not or any special (limiting) category, but a BIP in the category of excellent photography in general and without any "if" and "but". Alone the fidelity of your details and lighting is a lesson for anybody telling me about "feelings" and other cheap excuses for missing skill. This is what *is* depicted to the highest degree and care!
So it shall be captured!
