A great, unimaginable lighting/toning here, Peter! It reminds me of the timeless images of Ansel Adams, especially the really strong clouds! There is so much nice detail and contrast on this one! Excellent also in the sense of pespective/composition! Except perhaps for a small disturbance (for my eyes) due to the the top of the grasses on the bottom center, I only see a perfectly taken image!
The scene has an "other worldliness" about it, as if it were taken on another planet. To me, that's a good thing. The sun dazzled edges of the clouds draw the eye initially, but then the almost metallic tint of the river and trees cause the gaze to drop down to them - almost as if to soothe them from the brillance of the cloudy sky. This is a photograph I could look at for a long time because it intriques me. Very, very nice.
