About Way back when... in the early to mid 1950's, when the Cold War was in its early days and there seemed to be a bit of paranoia in the air, the U.S. Army developed the Atomic Cannon. Actually it was a very large artillery piece that fired a projectile with an atomic warhead. It was far too big to be practical, but it made you feel a little safer when you were five years old and the Russians were going to attack us. Since then we've calmed down a bit, and we're still stuck with this white (OD) elephant. So, if you're ever driving US 95 north from Yuma, you'll see it guarding the vast expanse of the Arizona desert.

Yikes. It's frightening how naive and cavalier we were with radioactive weapons.

Thanks for showing, never knew it existed. Late mr S. Hussein of Iraq built a better canon though it never came to a working stage, If i remeber well it was several km long.

PS, observe well, Taliban wants to take over Pakistan and may be interested in this weaponry as well .... so anchor it well.

GM could melt this down and build a couple of hundred of gas guzzlers. Very intersting shot and thanks for posting it George.
