Graham! Which snow - in sun, in mid shade, in deep shade? All in zone 8? I'm certain some compromises have to be made!

Oh, dear, I haven't laughed this much in ages. It's like you're asking, "Do you want fries with that?"
It's simple, snow falls on Zone 8 unless shot at midnight!

Graham, what part of the snow do you want "white?" The part in the shade, the part in the sun, the part reflecting sky, the part reflecting water. This is a combination of fifty exposures! Figure that one! One more beer for me! Cheers! Eb

Heh, heh!
I see the ole "Zone System" gotcha on this one!
A beautiful image nonetheless and wonderfully composed.
A mask in PS should take care of this one. Be a devil, give it a whirl! Get that snow white!

Oooh, this just makes me want to put on some more clothes. Wow, what a stunning picture. The long exposure on the water lookes surreal along with the gorgeous lighting in the background. A job well done. Kelly

Hi Joggie, my motivation to contribute images to usefilm wanes at times. However, your comment is very encouraging! Indeed, I prefer naturalistic HDR conversions! I use the technique in the same way I used to manipulate film development in order to get a printable dynamic range.
The D700 seems to be an ideal camera as it does everything well, is fully pro featured, yet is reasonably priced compared to Nikon's highest end pro models. The handling is much the same as the D300 (which I still use). Of, course it has a few additional features missing in the D300, but now present in the new D300s. I find the D300 to be more advantageous for wildlife and macro because of the magnification factor. However, if I only had the D700, I'd still be very happy! My wife still uses my old D200! The D70s still sees occasional use, too!
Lenses I use, with the D700 and D300 are the 14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4D, 70-200 f/2.8VR, 300mm f/4, 80-400mm f/4-5.6VR, 60mm f/2.8D macro, 105mm f/2.8VR macro, 200mm f/4 macro and the TC17. For use on the D300 and D200, I still retain the DX lenses, 10.5mm f/2.0 fisheye, 12-24mm f/4, and 17-55 f/2.8.
The most important lenses to me are the 24-70mm f/2.8, 200mm f/4 macro, and the 300mm f/4 plus the TC17. I would be happy with these alone and could no longer afford to make such extravagant purchases of lenses and camera equipment.
I will post some more images and hope to check out your latest. Regards! Eb

Hi Eb, congratulations on a superb image! Different from the majority of HDR submissions that I have seen, this looks completely natural - diffcult to tell if you did not tell us. I realy like the three tone appearance of the scene with the many subtle brown/yellow tones in the foreground. Great exposure on the sky and snow too. My only critique(a small one at that) is the rock in the foreground being cut off. Fine work indeed.
How do you find the D700? The results are super - how does it handle? Which lenses do you use?
Regards, Joggie

Thanks, Kerry! This one was in the bag from a late snow at the end of February. I try to make my HDRs look natural. You will find this place down the Chilliwack River valley.

Geez - I was just in Chilliwack a week ago and it didn't look at all like that - gave me a bit of a scare! Beautiful job Eb... the color and composition are very striking, even for an HDR. Very well done!

Thanks immensely, Dave! I did shiver doing that one, almost to the point of hypothermia! But, it was well worth the effort! I know that in Winnipeg it would be colder and the water would have frozen, but there is also something nasty about the damp cold we have on the coast.
