That is simple amazing....clear magic, the underexposure freeze the water and makes it looks like ...ice PLUS the deep tones of the shot with the dark on silhouettes to worked very well with the sparkling water from the strong sunlight... and the hairs.....connected with the water so nicely... one of the best photos I ever seen!

Just found this wonderful image on the front page. Congratulations for the Staff Choise award. This is fantastic. BEautiful movement in the hair and water and loovely shapes formed. Gorgeous lighting. I'm thinking this model must have almost drowned foryou to get this shot so perfectly. :) I'd love to see the colour. Did you post a colour that I might find one in colour in your portfolio? Superb shot.

I have no illusions that this was not preceeded by a lot of hard work. The good thing is that it all paid off. That is a lot of water! Backlighting like this must be difficult but it really works well. 1/1250 at f/18 requires pretty fast "film" too. I like Lars Raun's treatment of this idea as well (search this site if you haven't already seen it), but I have to say that your version is a purer effort into this particular shot. Well, I'm off to take a look at your web site, see you later!

To all of those who have left me comments, I truly thank you. I am sorry that I cannot email you a response so I will have to post it here and hope that you return to read this.
I started this series several years ago and it has taken several iterations. I have a wonderful model, my daughter, who has great hair and very strong neck muscles! Don't think that this was one lucky shot, I have taken hundreds of these to get a handful that I am pleased with. Lighting, shape of water, posture and adequate sharpness have all been a challenge. I am pleased with the results.
