Not sure what you mean by an old-fashioned face, but he's a handsome boy...the pose looks far too informal for Victorian, but it's a nice child-portrait, capturing the child's (this particular child's) amiable willingness to go along with whatever games the adults want to play today. Have you actually taken any photos since about 1975?

This boy has come out from a Charles Dickens book, I am sure. Love that very black background that brings him right into the spot. Splendid composition (no news about that).
His expression is quite amazing. He is dreaming with something very pleasant.

I cannot judge what qualities you are seeing as Victorian here, but it would be interesting to know. I am guessing the softer face and possibly the clothing as well. The face is striking as usual, but the wall on the left side appears out of place as I see it.

Nice to see you back David.
He's does have a great face. I feel he looks more from the 20's or 30's than Victorian as William nmentions. But it's a wonderful portrait no matter what.

very enjoyable portrait but it doesn't strike me as particularly Victorian. I have looked through a fair number of old photography books and it seems to me that a lot of Victorian children's photos were taken in the garden, or your street urchin shots on the street. this is a good to excellent expression and sense of this young man....but the column or wall edge out of focus on the left seem a modern note to me. I haved you marked as a "friend" because I think your people photos are among the best I have seen posted here, if not the most consistently fine work. regards, Bill Gibson
