Nice coversion to B&W, I also like the composition. I would love to shoot this with some panF to really pull out the detail.
To answer your qustion, I really like the Tokina lenses that I am using. Currently I have the 28-70 AT-X Pro, 80-400 AT-X and the 28-105 SZ-X manual focus for my Canon A1. All are nice and sharp.

Overall, a beautifully rendered image. The deep shadows are a bit blocky but that, I think, is easily fixed through some selective dodging or careful tweaking of the curves. I like the balance of the composition a lot.

Mark, I think I have a picture of the same tree somewhere. hee hee. Not a bad pic for B&W, the shadows are a bit lost, the subject is more centered for my taste. How did you make your black and white? There are a couple techniques I can share with you. Email me. I think it may be interesting to crop this to be a vertical panoramic. Taking the top left edge of the center tree and all to the left away. well something to play around with anyway.
