You can take nice macros with your camera Robert. I am also thinking of using some soft something in front of the flash for macros. best regards Guido

Oops an update. The males are the ones that have the fuzzy antenna to pick up the pherenomes of the females so this moth is a female sorry.

IN REFERENCE TO YOUR LAUNDRY MOTH. IT IS DEFINATELY A MOTH AND A MALE-THE ANTENNA ARE SLENDER AND NOT FEATHERED. PROBABLY IN THE SATURNIA GENUS. I ASSUME YOU TOOK THIS PICTURE IN SOUTH AFRICA BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A US SPECIES. IT WOUOLD BE NICE TO HAVE A PHOTO OF THE UNDERSIDE. THE EYE SPOTS MAKE ME THINK IT A SATURNID MOTH AND NOT A GEOMETRID. YOU MIGHT CHECK A LOCAL UNIVERSITY OR LIBRARY AND LOOK UP SATURNID MOTHS.

From what I have found (not a lot) it "could" be part of the Erebus family of moths. Very similar to the Erebus Ephesperis. Goodness knows how I found that. I hope Ernie passes by ... or give drop him an email, he's a great chap !

Stephen, I spent 2 hours trying to identify the Iguana and came up with zip. I could have driven to the zoo and back in half the time! But I can now identify every other type of lizard and reptile, and I know what to feed Iguans. Thanks in advance. Rob

Oh Oh that sounds like another project but this time to a library lol It is a great photo Robert but I do still like the "Laundry Moth" annotation. Leave it with me and I will see what turns up - the best person to help is ERNIE BUCHANAN, Ernie is an expert on Entomology !! (just spent 20 mins searching the internet - this is a tough one lol)
