Taras thank you for you comments, I had a look at your images and they are super. I hadn't done much planning, except for dusting off my tripod and taking a few shots before the eclipse started. The Minolta has a 38-380 (35 SLR equiv.) optical zoom, but I also used the 4x digital zoom (giving 1520mm) so that I could see what I was doing! I also used the self timer to prevent shake. It is getting into winter here and there is also a lot of dust and smoke in the air, which might account for some decrease in quality. The Minolta also doesn't have a raw format save option, and I think the compression and noise reduction algorithm do some weird things to the image. The lens is also infamous for its purple fringing with high contrast shots! Till next time.

Robert,

I think you should have been able to get better focus, but I do not know the quality of the DiMAGE Z1's optical zoom.

Here are links to two of my images from November's lunar eclipse: http://www.usefilm.com/image/243928.html , http://www.usefilm.com/image/243288.html

Dankie Riny, maar dit was 'n bietjie meer geelerig hier. Ek dink daar is baie stof in die lug. My eerste pos "Embryo" is die ware kleur toe dit donker geword het. Groete, Robert
