About Scanning pictures sure is frustrating. I hate the way the left side of the road looks and I don't like the loss of detail in the vehicles at the end of the road. This particular morning the city was engulfed in fog (had to pull over due to intense fog) and as I was heading west on 40 I suddenly broke free of the fog into the unadulterated sunshine. Simply amazing. Would love some suggestions. Should I crop part of the sky out?

I would have preferred seeing no vehicles in the shot, perhaps that would have been difficult to achieve. Otherwise a nice shot with good detail and range of tones.

Bit late with my comments I admit but for me the sky is fine...this is big sky country open empty rolling landscape. Maybe we should set up a string tho on scanning sizing for maximum quality on uploads to usefilm. I am the first to admit that mine are all a little haphazard...whereas a standard set of parameters would be helpful

I'd say: too less sky. Noise disturbs indeed. Anyway very good, well framed picture

Rebecca,
You're much too kind. Out of every ok photo I take there are probably 99 stinkers I won't even show anyone. I'm happy about the critiques about this photo because I believe something about it is flawed. If I could retake the photo I would have included more of the hill on the left somehow. The abundance of sky sort of bothers me but in the original print the sky is much smoother and less grainier and less "noisey". I'll probably post a cropped version soon to see what people think. Thanks so much.

You know, after going back and looking through your portfolio, I'm almost ashamed of having given an opinion! You have a fabulous portfolio full of awesome black and whites. Congrats on the BIP award. I"m not sure it was here when I made this comment. But a well deserved award.

Hi Paul, I think it's a very good photo.
Tried some cropping, but that didn't work.
It's much stronger as it is, the only thing it needs is a rotating of 2 degrees clockwise.
And a small black frame IMO.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Excellent tones...the fog is amazing! Wonderful lighting..as far as the sky goes.. I think it would enhance the perspective and lead the eye more down the road. With this much sky, it has a vast, open appearance, distracts from the line of the road. IMHO. Either way, it's a very cool image.
