You can almost feel the texture of the shoes and the grain of the wood. The lighting and tone are good with nice composition and diagonal lines.
Very good work!

Exellent composition and treatment of this subject, Rebecca. An idea might be to "roughen-up" the boots a little, photographically speaking! To give them a real sense of where they have travelled..etc.

The colors and tones also add to the image...well done girl!

I had a bright evening light coming in, Michael. I find I get much greater details and richer colors when I underexpose. I do it on bw also, but only in a brighter light.

Wonderful image. You have a gift for making extraordinary photographs from ordinary objects and scenes. I'm curious to know why you underexposed by 3 stops.

Excellent use of diagonals, Rebecca, both in the shoes and in the planks. Lots of meaning here carried by a plain old pair of boots!

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique What a great, nostalgic image, Rebecca! The dappled lighting, textures and soft sepia tones are all terrific - I also really like the way the opposing angles of the boards and shoes complement one another. The composition is really superb!
Just one little technical nit (sorry!) is that the angle of the gap in the boards at upper-left needs to be rotated clockwise a little to match the perspective in the rest of the shot.

Beauty can be found everywhere, even in a pair of old shoes.
Thank you, dear Rebecca, for your very friendly comment on my "Yemenite woman."

Rebecca, as I sit here and look at this, all I can think about is how comfy those boots must be, nothing like a good pair of comfy old boots.

Love the light and texture here, underexposing by 3 stops was just perfect!!!

Although the composition of this image is very good, it is the technical excellence that captures my attention. The lighting is wonderful, and by underexposing this shot you have captured all the detail in both wood and leather. This realism really allows a story to be told. It may only be a pair of shoes Rebecca, but I think this is your best photograph ever.
