If I remember correctly, Rocky, I probably had my camera on Auto mode. It is just lately that I have tried to expand. Within Auto, I would have played with the zoom to try to fill the available viewing space and see where the best focus was. I do not remember purposefully changing ant of the settings.

This was very helpful, Mary. Thanks for the insight. I do have a low power EP and there isn't any rubber around it so the lens can get very close to the EP glass. Hi, Rocky. My camera is a Kodak DX7440 digital camera. I can't change that; so the thing is to look at your eyepieces and see what you have with the glass close to the surface. Some have rubber eyeguards that can be removed. That may help get the glass closer. I found it easier to hold my camera to a low power EP as lining up the light can be challanging. As far as the aperture and the f/stop, I'm sorry, I am probably not much help. I don't know enough about how to use the settings on my camera. I just 'played' with the settings until the picture looked focused on my camera screen. I apologize that this may not be of much help.

No, Mary. That isn't too wordy for me. I really appreaciate when people take the time discuss their techniques here (so many here don't). How else can we learn?
I will definitely take your advice and try it even when the moon ISN'T full. You're so right, the full moon may be too much anyway. I am curious about whether my camera lens and eyepiece will match-up. What camera lens did you use for these? I see that you had your aperture wide for these and I wonder if a higher f/stop would make a big difference. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. ~ Warmest regards, Rocky

Hi Rocky. I'm so glad you like my Moon shots. Have a great time with your telescope and camera. You can just hold your camera up to the EP. It takes a little 'holding your mouth the right way', but it does work. I have just got an adapter to atach my camera to a couple of my EP's, so it will be more steady. I haven't had many chances to use it yet, though. Oh, when choosing an EP to hold your camera to, choose one with the glass of the EP close to the edge. That way, you have the glass of the camera lens and EP as close as possible. Also, using a tripod for your camera can help. ANother thing, Rocky, why wait for a full Moon? A full Moon is quite bright and can contribute to overexposure problems. Besides, the shadows at other, times like this shot, can be quite intersting. Sorry, I'm getting too wordy, so I'll syop now. Hi Roberto. I know what you mean about time---I don't have the time to spend on my 2 hobbies (photography and Astronomy) that I would like.
It's so unfortunate that you have to sell your telescope. I sure would not like to part with mine. I have an 8 inch Skywatcher Dobsonian. Dobsonians don't track, but one of the members of my Astronomy group built some equatorial platfroms for Dobs. I was fortubate enough to get my mane on that list. It works really well and tracks beautifully. However, my telescope may not recognize me as it has been so long since I have had it out. Take good care of you.

Woowww.. Mary, your shot is so good, maybe have a little aberration effect, but the quality is so good, is so many time that I do not see more the sky, with my telescope, here, unfortunately I do not have much time and this passion is still!
I must now also sell my telescope and this is also difficult.. my shot of the moon in position, only with my telephoto lens and my old camera with film..

Hi Annemette. I'm glad you like my telescoe pictures. I sure hope you get yours working properly soon. It's frustrating when they don't do what you want. There are a few other UFers that have posted some shots. One does have to keep one's eyes open for them, though. One of the guys in tyhe same astronomy group as me posted a great picture. It does not look like that great a great photographic picture but a phenomenal astro picrture. He caught the International Space Station coupled with the Shuttle Discovery crossing in front of the sun. The whole event took 0.6 seconds so it was quite an achomplishment to get the shot. This guy is a very good photographer and ameteur astronomer. Here's the link to his shot.

Kevin, I have an 8 inch Skywatcher reflector telescope on a Dobsonian mount. I recently acquired an Equatorial Platform which provides tracking ability to my scope. I love it. (Tracking is not needed for Moon shots.)
The Moon is quite telescope friendly and can be viewed well from most types and sizes. One certainly does not need an 8 inch to get stunning views of our closest celestial neighbour.

Margaret, after reading your note, I did look at Den's picture. It is great. The Moon is lovely, but not that cooperative a subject for camera users. Without my telescope, I'd never get a decent picture. Thanks for commenting on my picture and for referring my to Den's.
