Full of ironic and touching counterpoint, this street capture has the spontaneity of the ordinary spiced with the details of meaningful composition. One foot in sunshine, the rest in shadow; the bright, right foreground dominated by the bag of what we assume to be the figure's worldly possessions; the fatburger ad--what's a better emblem of gross American excess than fast food red meat?--is poised with its pointy edge directly near where the figure's mouth might be--yet it's a hollow media enticement rather than an actual offered meal. In the background, in the upper-right corner, difficult to make out, appears to be a child holding something--a bag of candy? groceries?--who may or may not be looking at the figure--but we are robbed by the crop of seeing her eyes. Like us, do we look at this scene without "seeing?" So much going on here.
