i prefer this version, colors add life, especially skin tones, it brings out the glow. But thats just my personal preference.

I know I am not always agreed with on this, but when filming live subjects, be it people or plants, I much prefer color. There are times when trying to create a mood or using subdued lighting B/W does work better but in a case like this where it is a straight forward portrait I vote for the color. Del

This one. . .nice pose, arrangement and angle but the lighting doesn't work extremely well. Our subject is somewhat in the dark. . nice hopeful upcast expression though. . .

I like the way there is more light on the face - the fact that the head is turned and the eyes are looking into the distance adds to the overall effect. Nice balance of colour.

Sally I like the colour version more, it has good tones and they show up better in the colour version. The BW is perhaps not quite strong enough tones, but I am no expert anyway - but particularly in BW. Although I am at the moment trying a few conversions of shots of my grandaughter.

Hi Mike - thanks for taking the time to comment honestly!
I'm not so hot on B&W - so when you say it doesn't have enough contrast, - does that mean that it has potential to be re-tweaked in PS - or that I should look for a more suitable image to start with? And do you have any tips for B&W conversion?
Thank you, Sally.

Sally,

You have a nice model. I think the color is a better photograph. The b&w doesn't have enough contrast to make it a good b&w. The soft colors of her shirt and color of her hair make the color better for me. A dab of powder on her face would help with the slight shine of her skin also.

Sally, a great composition, nicely taken. Having eye contact would have probably made a stronger shot, but very good all the same.

I have a really neat attachment for my camera hot shoe - it's like a long pole with a bit of fishing line attached, and then depending on the sitter, you can tie various objects on the end such as furry mouse (for the cat) or a £20 note (for my sister)- to keep them looking where I want them to. I guess I aim it to the left to keep it out of the way of my trigger finger...

There's something fascinating happening off to the left - both your model and your cat of several images back seem captivated by it!

Great result - I do appreciate it when photographer's show and explain exactly what they have done.

I think I prefer this one to the B&W - there's a very limited range of tones that add subtlty to the image.
