I have simply GOT TO get to a place like this! A beautiful place taken from a great location. What I like best here is the small round field in the top center. It seems not to be a rice field as we can see the brown earth rather than the water and seedlings in the other fields. Likely it is sitting above a level where it is easy to irrigate and it quickly reminded me of how amazing it is that they can irrigate all those fields.

cheryl.... no offence taken by me at all. i see nothing wrong with PS and in fact, why wouldn't someone use it if it can improve your photo? of course we should try to get the basic elements right in the camera in the first place, exposure for one thing. and composition.
i find that now i rarely crop my photos as i manage to get the framing just about right where i want it on almost every shot now. so through practice, i've cut out one of the steps i listed above.
do you have any URLs for good PS tutorials? i know a few but would like to see some more to help me out a bit more.
warmest regards ~ james

Don't feel like I'm judging anyone - I think I'm the queen of PSing a photo! :) I love that even in digital we have our tools. Technology is grand. I love the shot you captured and that's the most important part of a photo - subject. :)

Hi Cheryl.... I do the following to some/many of my photos:
1. crop (if necessary); 2. clone out any stuff that might ahve gotten in the way. usually garbage people leave laying around or some otherwise unexplained spots; 3. levels; 4. colour, (if necessary); and 5. brightness/contrast.
These rice terraces are about as green as what you see here, given that it is quite wet at this time of year. When I viewed the photos on the camera they looked like what you see here, however once I uploaded to my computer a lot of the colour seemed to get lost, so I had to recover it in PS. Subtle adjustments, but i do them all the same.
Thanks for commenting. Maybe see you in China someday ~ James

Wow James - this is wonderful. What a great capture. Was there a little PS work on the color? I am in love with the variations you caught here. What a wonderful capture and the about is great - I have yet to get to China. This isn't how I picture it so thank you for sharing this. :) Thanks for your comment in the Forums.

Wonderful landscape- I think the small layer @ the top with blue haze makes the shot stand out. Very attractive contrast of the blue shaded haze with the warmer, earthy colors. And of course a fantastic scenery, well deserved the SC.

Beautiful image, James. There is so much depth to it, the lines really draw the eye to the edge of the hillside at the top. -- Naomi
