About

Today Damion and Kita arrived back from the coast. With them was a series of photos. This is one that appealed to me. It was taken of the Mackay Harbour. They didn't have a tripod with them, so Damion sat the camera on a railing and took this 6 second shot. I thought they had done pretty well. They used an ISO of 400 and an Aperture of 5.6 so there was a bit of noise in the sky. But the lights across the clouds was what appealed to me as well as the rocks in the foreground.

Hehehehe...you are too funny. I think they could have done better with a lower ISO. As I said to them 95% of my images are done on 64 ISO....even action shots.

Great nightscape. I love the reflections in the water, and the city lights partially lighting up the sky/clouds is excellent.

Share my compliments on an excellent composition and shot, Judi. Night shots are hard enough without having to improvise for no tripod. Very well done.

Wonderful night shot!!! Love the colors, great view.... well done!!! Now who needs a tripod.... when there are walls, railings, trees etc.. nearby.... ;-D.... and sometimes taking a steady stand and holding your breath 'till your almost blue in the face will do the trick as well... LOL!!!!

Thanks Margaret. Yes, she is doing well. She is happy because she got to go away with Daddy for a couple of days and see her grandparents. She got to go clothes shopping and out to dinner and take photos. So she is pretty happy at the moment. LOL!! Any little girls dream.

Judi,

I absolutely agree "they did pretty well considering" --- I thought I said as much.

I like to give praise where it is due first, give them some encouragement, then a bit of constructive criticism or sugestions.

Sorry if that didn't come through initially.

Yes, I agree. But they were actually staying about an hour from this location and my hubby was sick the whole time. This image was taken at 6-30pm so they did pretty well considering.

No Patrick...it isn't skewed to the left. Damion drove out on the long wall (over a 1km) and looked back at the coastline and photographed it. What you are seeing is the drive and the wharf meeting in the middle but not touching in the actual photo....they are uneven heights which maked it look uneven.

This is very nice and an excellent shot considering no tripod was used. Nice steady hand and railing!

My advice to them is to try and capture this whilst there is still a little colour in the sky, as personally I find that more pleasant than a solid black one.

Patrick Jacobson   {K:29151} 7/2/2005
I like the lights and colors here.. but i bother about that the image is skew to the left. But that is easy fixed so overall its a great shot! =)

Good capture of detail in both the sky and foreground to round the image out. I think your horizon isn't quite level, though, and that hurts the image a fair bit, I'm afraid (although, it is easy to fix!) Good work for the equipment you had available.

Yes it is great, like the twinkly coastline with it's reflections. Hope Kita is still doing okay
