Simplicity in its best! =) Very nice shot and the blurred out background works great here and makes the shot more interesting. Ive also started using a tele lens instead of my 12-24mm wide lens. Gives very nice result with using a tele.. can be abit tricky sometimes to include everything but then again with using a wide the problem is that everything is included instead.. hehe

I hear what you are saying about long lenses in landscape. They are great at picking out details, and people just tend to go for the wider lenses because that is what they are told is suitable for landscape. I think a lot depends on your persona style. The style you have developed seems to suit a longer focal length, and your results are very nice.
A wide-angle lens will have its uses for people with different approaches and styles.
