very nice contrast with the warm soft light that hits the white church, good angle to capture the pattern of the cross. The dark background isolates the subject with this superb low light. I think I see no problem with the shadow on the foreground, it gives the viewer the viewer added information about its situation and location...
great shot!

Fair enough.... I might have 'over cropped' just to make a point (looking back at it the ideal crop is about just past half way up)... I found the shadow to be a bit distracting.... well that was my opinion anyway... ;-D!!!

Petal, actually I liked the foreground: first, I liked the shadow; second, I think it balances the image somewhat. Your crop in my opinion squeezes the subject. Regards.

nota histórica:
A foto foi tirada numa aldeia que foi totalmente arrasada pelo rei D.Pedro, pois o donatário da mesma foi um dos assassinos de D.Inês de Castro.Hoje em dia só restam capelas e a junta de freguesia do Jerumelo algures na Guarda.

Great shot!!! Beautiful colors, super (ominous) sky, excellent composition... well spotted!!! The only little thing: you could crop some of the foreground... it doesn't add anything and would make a stronger image IMHO... had a go at it, hope you don't mind... ;-D!!!
