Hey Susan, you may want to think about buying the 105mm f2.8 Nikon macro. I LOVE this lens. It is a very nice portrait lens as well as for closeups. You will get much more detail, clairity, and sharpness out of this 1:1 macro lens. It can be stopped down to f56 which is why this lens kicks the Canon 100mm f2.8's ass!
