Thanks again Sascha, these birds are very friendly, but don't stay put for too long, maybe a second or two. We went in the park armed with a bag full of seeds, and waited. They all came in a matter of minutes, looking only for sunflower seeds. This one was towards the end, no more sunflower seeds, and he seems puzzled. I have missed many shots to get three or four right:) I'm looking forward to your new posts too, Ina

Stunning capture. You don#t often get a chance to get such a shot. You have a great portfolio, I really love to view it. You know how to use the camera and all your awards show you professiolism.

Hi Ina,
It is the perfect title. That happens a lot for popular shots. Almost everyone that has an interest in photography and birds will eventually try a shot like this :)
They are a lot of fun and they seem to like people.

Hi Mark, sorry I'm taking longer than usual to reply, I've been reading all your comments and I appreciate very much your input. The 20D is indeed in a different category, not pro, but semi-pro. The other part of the equation is the lenses, as a Canon ad used to say "it's only the thing you look through" - which really stuck in my mind. And that's really what makes a difference both in quality and in price. So far I have only the kit lens and the Tamron 70-300mm zoom, enough to cover the basics, although I'd love to get a sharp macro lens. I noticed right away the nice feel of the camera, it reminded me of my first SLR wrapped in leather, although this one is plastic, it feels like that. The focusing screen is beautiful, and very precise, and I enjoy the subtle colors as they come straight from the camera. Hopefully it will make a difference. Thanks for your comments, Mark!

The Panasonic FZ-10 is my back-up camera - it's 4MP - but very sharp and it's great for travel because it covers from 38mm to 420mm (12X zoom). My other camera was a Canon 300D, which died on the trip to Death Valley, and again in Alaska, and now it's still in repair. So I used the FZ-10 all the time. Now I made a jump to a Canon 20D. Hopefully it will behave itself.

The eeeee sound is most likely a power transformer. I'm one of the few people who can hear it; and critters.
I noticed you have the Lumix FZ10 with the Leica lens. I keep telling people the lens plays a large part in image quality.

They are people friendly birds, but my shutter noise scared them. I don't know why your camera makes a noise when it's idle? Maybe you can turn it off from the menu settings? I turn my focus beep off for wildlife, but there's nothing I can do about the shutter.

I heard from someone here (maybe it was you) that they are friendly birds, and this isn't unusual for them to be this tame.
You know what scares them are the whirring noises coming from our digital cameras. Mine emits this tiny "eeeeeeeeeeeee" sound just being idle.

Very nice Ina! The sharpness, creamy tones, color, and above all DOF create a wonderfully simple and charming composition here. Thgere is a certain softness to it in spite of the shap focus. Great work!
And it looks like you have a new camera! You've done some truely amazing work with the lower resolution Panasonic (REO Gold Comet, and the dew drop shots, among others) and of course you 300D work is fantastic. And now the 20D is a big league camera that performs big league art when used with your very gifted eye, Ina. I'm not normally a person who places a lot of importance on the equipment, but your personal photographic style with it's use of light, texture, and detail really expoits this camera's capability, I think.

Hi Lydia, thanks for both coments! There were about 20 chickadees, all very friendly. Some were flying almost on top of my head, I could hear their wings flapping near my ears. They were very fast though, and most pictures are blurry. It was freezing, too, my husband's hand was getting red. I will be back on Tuesday with my comments, have a great weekend! Ina

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Linda! It was sub-zero temperature, his hand was freezing, and so were mine. We had to leave after an hour, just too cold. But we left them food.

Hi Linda, they are wild birds, but human friendly. As soon as they see people, they gather around. The trouble is they are very swift and don't stand still. There were at least twenty that took turns. They were scared by the shutter noise, and took off fast. I have a lot of blurry pictures!

Thanks Ann, we went to that place one day, and the chickadees flew around us. My husband opened the palm of his hand, and one bird landed on it and itlooked for food. So we decided to go back, bought a 20lb bag of wild bird seeds, and set up for the photo shoot. The trouble was - they only picked the sunflower seeds! All the yellow seeds we left there for other birds. And also a downy woodpecker came on a nearby tree, but it came out blurry.

Wow, how cool is that? They must be tame birds, or they're used to being hand fed! Wonderfully captured, with nice lighting. I like the reflection in his eye, Well composed! I could spend a whole day doing that, I mean feeding the birds, I bet there were squirrels too? Great job Ina!

This is soooooo very precious Ina. I guess hubby has all the birds eating out of his hands huh? (pun intended) ;) The DOF is fantastic and the detail is excellent. It looks so very tiny and you've captured it's delicacy so beautifully. A wonderful shot perfectly timed. A great moment captured here Ina. Well done and bravo. I love it.
