It is always interesting to see how other sites handle different concepts... the Trekearth (and Treklens) sites have workshops. You can see all the workshops on the site, or if your on an individual's portfolio, you can see if they have given or received any workshops. I think that type of concept would work well on Usefilm.

Douglas,
Thank you for getting back to me and thank you for the encouragment. Between yourself and Sam, you both turned my picture into an excellent image, which i am thankful for. Were all here to learn and for that too i am grateful. I look forward to learning more from the many many great photographers out there such as yourself, Sam, Jim etc. No need for an apology as i can now see where you are coming from. Thank you for your comments and i look forward to more in the future.
Kind regards, Mark

Mr. Baxter,

First of all, I would NOT call yourself a 'total novice' because this is a fine image with great versatility per the attached. Many times we used to load reworks on WEBPHOTOFORUM the way I did and mark them in a folder titled reworks which I did not do here.

Anyway, to further clear this up and because I altered your image extremely, I wanted to see how well it would do through the critique cycle before loading it as an attachment here and that is why my about stated it as a TEST.

I am glad you liked the rework per your own comment(s) on this image page of yours. I know also though that the attached rework thumbnail will probably break up though within months as they do so often which has already been addressed with Admin numerous times I believe.

Therefore, I will propose three suggestions in the Suggestion Forum:

1. That rework attachments stay in tact for a longer duration on the Authors' image page.

OR

2. That we can create a Folder titled "Reworks" so that people can see how much we try to assist people.

AND

3. That we can create a Folder titled "Favorite Images Of Other Photographers" with links so everyone can see what we really like in other peoples' work.

Hopefully that can all happen. I always mark my images with the request that "All comments and ratings are greatly appreciated" and I did not this time. Your image is not my style at all but I saw great possibilities for it and still do.

Thanks for your understanding and Best of Regards!

P.S.

Even though I deleted the original 800 DPI and it is now only a 500 DPI here, (very small imho for studying), I will direct all persons to this new posting by me who commented on the other, but why did it end up with 143 views, 11 commments and ONLY a 3.3 Overall Rating which is another great point for the latter mostly is beyond me.

Controversial Rework - My Apologies

M.A Baxter   {K:44} 11/30/2005
Jim,
Hi, quite agree that controversy has occurred. The picture was taken of London Bridge in Lake Havasu by me with my family (have the other ones in my directory!). The lighting most probably remains similar throughout the years which may explain the slight angle difference. They most probably saw my photograph, had a better version and then posted it, although I thought they may have dropped me a line to show me how I could have improved my shot. At the end of the day I am here to learn and I am certainly learning lots of different tips about photography. The lighting of that bridge was done with a slight change in Photoshop elements 2.0. The issue will hopefully not be blown up - just intriguing - most probably what I said about, he saw mine, had a better one and then posted it. Don?t want to make excuses for them, just interested. Thanks Jim and I certainly look forward to hearing the other side of the story. What a way to enter into the USEFILM community !!
Regards, Mark

Mark,
Looks like we have stirred up a bit of controversy here. I don't suppose there was a photographer standing next to you when you took this shot? :-)

Both Sam and I have done comparisons of your shot with that posted by Mr. Coffey. You might want to take a look at the comments on his posting again (www.usefilm.com/image/998282.html) if you are not already following them.

Jim,
Like what he has done with the image. Looks very similar to my photograph but with a little colour alteration and cropping? How spooky is that - two similar images posted at similar times - although mine slightly sooner? Regards, Mark

Thanks for the link Jim. The photograph looks as if its taken from pretty much the same angle, but taken better than mine! Like how they have achieved their image.
Cheers, Mark.

You might want to take a look at www.usefilm.com/image/998282.html
It sure looks like your shot with some PS work done to it.

Thanks, Sam. Ironically, I was out shooting that very same moon. If it's okay, I'm going to email you a couple questions about my exposure settings.

As for this shot, I too am curious as to how you did this so quickly!

Hi Gregg,

I guess the cropping of this shot is a matter of personal taste. I would not crop it because Your Eye needs something or someplace to end up. But that is me...lol to each his or her own...lol

Anyhow my friend. Flash's are good up do about 10 feet....after that the lighting goes away.
So shooting this with a flash isn't the matter of it reflecting off the water...but the fact that wouldn't have mattered...lol
Night photography is just setting your Camera up for a longer exposure and with the lens stopped wayyyyyyyy down.

I shot a Full Moon on the 19th of November I took about 20 shots of it.
Showing my mother what the difference between aperture and shutter speed was.
1st shot was done at F5.6 @ 1/250th
2nd was @ F8.0 @ 1/125th
3rd was @ F11.0 @ 1/60th
4th was @ F16.0 @ 1/30th
My Point is...If you viewed each shoot at the same time you would not be able to tell the difference.
It takes Twice as much light to acheive the same result between f5.6@1/250 and f8.0@1/125th
I hope this made somesort of sence.
I am willing to help anyone who wants help.
My Best Regards

Sam III

Hi Again M.A.

Here is what I came up with. I hope you like it.
I wouldn't Crop a Thing. The Composition in the Shot was Spot-on.

The problem with Shooting at Night. Is you have to have the Perfect Balance Between Shutter Speed and aperture.
Given the Available light on the sceen, You could have Probably shot this at
F/13
Shutter Speed of 1/30 to 1sec
ISO of 100=less noise

Did you shoot this with a tri-pod?
What I did to this shot was a 5 part process.
Email Me@ Brioamore@gmail.com and I will send you step by step instructions on how to do it yourself.
Best Regards

Sam III

My Version

Greg, Thanks for the comments. The camera is capable - the photographer is not! Look forward to seeing what Sam can do with this image.

Mark

I'm a bit of a novice myself, but the first thing I would do is crop off the left side of the picture, right up to the end of the bridge. It does need to be brighter, but I don't think flash would have worked, because it would have reflected on the water. Does your camera have a long exposure setting?
