  Q. Could anyone assist me with my new Pentax *istDs?
Sophie Jo
Asked by Sophie Jo    (K=135) on 6/16/2008
I have a second hand Pentax *istDs from eBay;) It's working perfectly for me, except for the fact that when i use a different lens from the one it came with, i can't take photos and i get a flashing F-- appearing. I know it's to do with shutter speed/ appature. Is there anyway to get around this? The lenses are old- do they need to be digital or have an automatic option to work?
Thanks for any help at all! :)

Make sure the camera is set to manual exposure mode and that the Autofocus is switched to manual. There may also be a setting in the menu to enable the use of the aperture ring.

Let us know how you get on.

No, I've tried it on manual exposure and manual focus to no avail. Thanks anyway though

Just in case you have not resolved this yet...

It may be worth cleaning the contacts between the camera and lens with the eraser on the top of a pencil. Sometimes the contacts get grease or dirt on them that stop the signal going between lens and camera.

Also as it was a 2nd hand camera you might want to find the menu option to reset all camera settings to default (look up the manual - google for a manual if you didn't get one - it might help you with the error message as well).
