Q. Cleaning your gear....

i have the fuji finepix s5000 digital, with a wide angle lens. what do i really need to keep my lens clean and how should i go about this. i have to admit i often neglect my equipment and that isn't a good thing.

The best way to keep your lens clean is to avoid touching it or having things come in contact with it in the first place. That said, I suggest you invest in a UV or Skylight filter to protect your lens. But to clean it, buy a lens cleaner specifically for camera lenses. Do not use Windex or Armor-All windshield glass cleaner! Also, don't use tissue paper, as it is very abrasive to the lens coating. Instead, buy lens cleaning tissue specifically for camera lenses.

All of Mark's suggestions are right on the money ... One other thing that really helps is to buy a rubber-bulb type syringe that can be used as a blower, and carry it in your bag. This way you can clean dust from the lens (or the UV filter before each use.
