  Q. Important note for budding sunrise photographers

Asked by Mary Sue Hayward   Donor  (K=17558) on 8/25/2001
If you are going to get up very early, load up the car, get set up in a good location, skip your morning coffee so that you will be in place to wait...wait...wait...for the sun to begin rising, make very sure that YOU HAVE WORKING BATTERIES WITH YOU!!!

ARGHHH.

oh, for shame....but at least you can laugh about it now! :) hey, al was thinking about adding a "stupid things we've done while learning" category....you can add this one to the countless ones that he is gonna add about me! lol

The way things go:

I could have plenty of hot batteries, all my equipment out and ready, great local, perfect position, and the sun wouldn't come up ;)

Additional notes for budding sunrise photographers:

Scout appropriate locations before hand, making special note of roads closed due to construction that were not closed just the other day.

Discuss with spousal unit which direction is east BEFORE you hike all the way down to where you cannot see anything.

Be aware that there are people just as wary of you as you are of them, and they just might think you look a little suspicious too.

Chris, not sure you are right that the sun will come up again. Set up my camera on top of Scottish Rite parking garage this morning, waited forever, well past sunrise time. It stayed dark. Then the rain hit my head. Tomorrow morning the sun should be fabulous because I'm sleeping in.
