soft filters, for the most part, youth-ify the old...making lines and blemishes disappear. hence, they are great uses for older individuals. for infants, the translucency of their face would be lost with these filters...and they have no blemishes to conceal. yes, you can use them. but, in doing so, you lose the silkiness and translucency of their skin. if in doubt, use them....but also shoot as many frames without the filter.

Thankx Nan, for the info. I usually shoot with and without a soft filter where applicable in a general sitting, just to maximize the most of the clients time here.
This is something I just noticed when I pass where ever I see portraits hanging. I'll see one of a baby in a basinet with a soft filter, and usaully a mother and baby, again with a soft filter.
This would be a completely different type of look of course. I guess I'll just go with it, when the hardware arrives.
Regards,
