A layer of kleenex with rubber band. A white card attached with rubber band for bounce. Not pretty but works.

The flashlights I've used for some photos in my, Glass, gallery have simple diffusers. One is just some clear (sort of) self-adhesive plastic rubber furniture bumpers. Another is two of these strapped on with a few strips of tape. They also provide the edges or lines, reminiscent of early Fishinger animation studies. Probably the best diffusers would be those designed for flash, for fill light, etc. You can see a large sheet being used in my, Verdict, gallery by a pro-cameraman. But the name one often associates with diffusers is Lumiquest.com.

I have the Lightsphere (by gary Fong) which I bought from the US. It is like a tupperware plastic container that sits on the flash head. It is translucent and like a round ball which you point straight up and then it diffuses the light so you have less shadows and more even light distribution. You can make your own from some plastic milk bottle container but it will look funny. I shelled out about AU$40.00 and bought it. I am really happy with the results.
