  Q. Canon Speedlight Transmitter ST-E2, can it do 2nd curtain sync?

Asked by Sony Kusumo    (K=7190) on 4/24/2005
Dear All,

I just wonder if anyone has tried the ST-E2 to do the 2nd curtain sync, with Canon's Speedlights or monolights. The main reason is that I did several outdoor shoots for, well, wedding portraits, mostly at night, and therefore to capture the background and surroundings, I did slow sync with second curtain sync. I use portable monolight that's triggered by in-camera flash (EOS 30 and EOS 20D) or Metz 44 AF 3C with rear sync.
The problem will be that the subject will be showered by the main beam.

I tried the IR trigger (from JTL) which unfortunately cannot do 2nd curtain sync. My monolights can accept IR signal, so I think they probably can accept trigerring signal from ST-E2 which triggers at the 2nd curtain sync. But after reading some information on the web, I'm not too sure about this.

I really-really appreciate if anyone can share their experience with this one, before I tried to buy one myself ('cos it's quite expensive though, at around $ 250...).

Thanks,

Sony
