  Q. Taking pictures of clear glass objects such as cups, margarita glasses, mugs, and so forth.

Asked by Scott Danner    (K=54) on 8/28/2005
I recently got a job working with this guy who sells alot of stuff on ebay. I take the pictures and he sells and ships the stuff. He just got a whole trailer of stuff to sale and I've been do great until I ran into several boxes of glassware. I just can't seem to get good pictures of glass. Any tips will be appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

hi Scott, one effective means is to back light and place black 'reflectors' either side

Hey Scott,
Glass is hard to shoot. I recommend using as much diffusion as possible, either a softbox or umbrella, and bouncing the light onto the subject and shooting the subject on a black velvet backdrop. White foam core works well to bounce light. Are you shooting with strobes or hot lights?
Hope that helps,
Nicole
