Q. selenium toning and bleaching

recently, I have started to bleach some of my prints - I have been using kodak multicontrast papers. If I attempt to selenium tone my prints, staining occurs.
is there a certain step i may not be doing properly? or is it just the nature of kodak papers? I realize all papers are not created equal, as ilford papers are more resistant to bleach than kodak.
any input or help would be welcome.

I've had a simmialar problem which was caused by a rusty drying rack.
Also I noted that if I didnt take pains to wash my prints throughly after fixing the toner stained.
If you have washed properly check the wash water and ensure its not hard water.
If it is a simple after wash in bottled water should do the trick

Make sure that your prints are totally free of any residual fixer. Use a washing agent like Kodak Hypo Clearing agent or Orbit Bath or one of the others prior to doing any toning. Even the slightest bit of residual fixer will case staining. With RC paper, fixer will seep in at the edges between the plastic coatings where the paper is cut and exposed. A good long wash is needed to leech the fixer out of the paper.

this might be a little off but... is there a reason to bleach before toning with selenium? i've never bleached before using selenium but then i only use it with fiber papers.

don't know why this individual is using this , but there are a wide variety of exotic toning methods, bleaching before or after selenium
bleaching, sepia, bleaching selenium, etc.

these tend to create split tones and shifts in the color of the photo; however, rc is not as prone to these shifts as are fiber papers. that is not to say, that rc won't shift, but some are more resisted than others
