Q. Suggestions for good online stores

I'm wanting to buy a Nikin D50 and I'm shopping around for some good prices, but other than good prices the number 1 issue is reliable and trustworthy sellers. I've already looked at amazon, adorama and bhphotovideo which I know to be reliable. Any other suggestions.
Thanks

Why not check out your local camera store? Give them a chance to meet the other prices, they probably will. Not that I am against online shopping, I do quite a bit of it, but between ebay and the giant online retailers and places like Best Buy, the small neighborhood camera shop will soon be a thing of the past. When the local camera stores are gone do you think that the pimply faced kid behind the counter at Best Buy will be able to answer your photographic questions or track down a particular item? I always give my local camera stores first crack when I make a purchase. So unless you live in some place that is a camera store free zone, give it a try. ;=]

How right you are Phillip. I travel 70 miles to get to my "Local" camera store. I have saved more money because of the sound advice than Best Buy could ever hope to give me in discounts. Take Care --Mike

Hi Amanda,
I can recommend Canonga Camera in California especially for Nikon. They have an advertised price of $489 for a D50 body only and $800 for the D50 with the Nikon 18-70 DX lens. I've bought from them before and have had great experience dealing with them.
As to whether you should by local or not, it's really up to you. My 'local' camerea shop branched out into stereo and tv equipment several years ago to stay alive. They still offer cameras, but rarely are they anywhere near competitive to online retailers. As far as 'advice' goes, most times they are too busy selling high end home theater systems to really give any in depth help to someone purchasing a camera. I have tried to remain faithful, but one instance in particular turned me off completely. Here's what happened to me:
I called them up on the phone and asked if a lens was in stock. They said yes, and I asked how much? They quoted me a price that was $20 more than B&H and I said I'd be right over. When I got there they said the quoted price was a mistake and that the lens was actually $60 more than B&H's price including shipping! I asked them if they would drop it $20 for me. Guess what? They refused! I thought I was being pretty gracious in my offer seeing how I was willing to pay over $40 more (with tax)to them.
Bottom line, I haven't been back.
Don't let others decide what you will do. Buy where you feel most comfortable-if it's local that's great. But it is no sin to buy online.
Take care and good light,
Anthony
