  Q. D100 Purchase...

Asked by Richard Wells    (K=310) on 8/25/2003
I am in the market for a D100, I am browsing the internet for the best deal. I have found the lowest price at a place called A&M Photo World. Has anyone dealt with, or know anything about this place?
Thanks
Richard

The best deal is the small mom and pop store around the corner.
You may pay more, but you will get service and expertise from people near you instead of having to send out to some anonymous PO box whenever you need something.

Richard, be very careful about online sales. The lowest price may not always be the best deal. There are several unscrupulous sellers out there that will advertise low prices, and then stick you with a graymarket, or refurbished camera, or in some really bad cases, no camera at all after they have processed your credit card.

Here is a good place to go to read up on retailers.

Go with a well established company. You may have to pay a bit more, but it's worth the money. The old saying "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is" really applies to purchasing on the internet.

Also, become familiar with your credit company's policy on internet fraud and how they handle things. A simple call to their customer service will give you a lot of information.

This is the FBI Internet Fraud Reporting site. They do go after people. I know, I lost $1200 to a fraudulent seller a couple of years ago. He's now in prison after several of us "victim's" got together and compared notes. I was trying to save a few bucks myself when buying my digital camera, I wound up losing a lot.

A little more info.

After I posted my last comment, I went to Resellerrating.com and did a search for A&M Photoworld.

These guys are crooks according to all the bad reviews. Lots of high pressure sales for extra accesories and extended warranties, telling customer's that an item is in stock to make the sale, only to call back a day or two later to reverse the story and say that they are back ordered, etc, Oh, and would you like to buy an extended warranty, etc.
