The EOS300D has no in-camera functions to convert to b&w (or any other 'artsy' modes like sepia etc.). B&W conversion must be done with photo editing software such as Photo Shop or Paint Shop Pro.

Yes, you need need to buy either the direct wired RS-60E3 Remote Switch (remote control) or the RC-5 (I think...) wireless remote control to properly use the bulb mode of the 300D. There is no provision for the old fashioned 'cable-release' on this camera.

Check Canon's 300D website for other remote switch compatability.

Huh? a $900 camera with a $1500 lens, yeah right.
A 28-300 compact hyperzoom macro from sigma for $250
is what you need.

IMHO

Bob

@Bob Atkinson...

At first I was a bit confused as to your comment regarding "a $900 camera with a $1500 lens, yeah right". Then I recalled an earlier thread where an individual asked for an opinion on the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L lens in the context of the 300D. Putting two and two together, it seems you may have directed your comment to that discussion and not the one in this thread.

I did comment that the Canon was a great lens. I also commented that since this person was already considering an $1100 (or so) lens he may want to look at the even more expensive IS version.

I have no problem recommending a $1500 lens for a $900 camera. My opinion is that digital slr bodies are almost to a point of being throw-aways, while lenses seem to be holding their values very well. A quick check in the back of some old photo-mags will prove this. My recommendation would be to invest in quality lenses and not in camera bodies. Digital SLR technology is moving pretty fast and dropping prices reflect that better deals will be available in the very near future.

Why not invest in a set of very good lenses and dispose of that $900 body next year when you can get faster/better performance and better features for the same or less money?

Please disregard this if I have somehow missed something...

Regards, Anthony

Lens takes the shot not the body so spend spend spend on good glass.
